How much time do you have?
September 29, 2026
This is a question every potential dog owner should ask themselves in order to help them find the right dog for their lifestyle.
It’s no secret that dogs require time and attention, yet not all dogs are equal in this. Factors such as age and breed can make a significant difference in how much time you need in order to care for your dog and make sure it receives the exercise and enrichment it needs.
By asking yourselves this question, you can consider other factors and figure out what dog suits you best:
- Age - Puppy, Young Dog, Adult or a Senior? Each age range has unique needs that need to be considered, and as such also require a different time commitment.
- Breed - More active and high drive breeds such as Border Collies or Shepherds have a different need for exercise and enrichment than a Shi Tzu or a Pug. It’s important to consider this in your decision so that you can find a dog that fits you and your lifestyle so that you are able to provide your dog with the right amount of exercise and enrichment.
- A dog with challenges? - Some dogs are presented with unique challenges that need to be addressed properly. Often this requires more time, attention and training in order to do so.
Finding the right dog for you is no easy thing. It’s also something that should be carefully thought out and researched so that the decision you make leads to a positive experience for both you and your dog. If you require assistance with making such a decision, at Haku & Co. we always welcome such questions! We will gladly accompany you on your journey into the world of dog ownership.
